ABOUT
Hi, I’m Audrey DeFord— Southern girl born and raised in the wide open spaces of the Texas flatlands. I married a delightful guy named Sam. Together we have a full house of three girls and two little boys ages 8 and under, a cuddly French Bulldog named Shortstack, and seven rambunctious backyard hens in McKinney, Texas. There is a rarely a quiet moment in our little home!
CURRENTLY
I’m producing new work in oil, acrylic, and mixed media in both small and large scale. If you’re local to North Texas, I am offering watercolor workshops each month— visit the WORKSHOPS tab to register for a class. Due to the time constraints that accompany raising many small (energetic!) children I am accepting few commissions at this time but would love to chat about creating something for your space.
SOME HISTORY…. (IF YOU’RE STILL READING)
If you asked kid Audrey what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would have shared a rather large (and quite unrealistic) laundry list of aspirations. Top on that list was artist.
As the years started to mount up, I mourned losing the wonder that associates itself with childhood. I quickly found that making things helped me continue viewing life through kid lenses. You can't consider life a big bore and still manage to make lovely things.
I studied at the University of North Texas in Denton with a concentration in drawing/painting and watercolor painting. Then I met Sam, got married, and never returned to finish out my senior year. You can find my work in private collections across the United States and parts of Europe and Australia. Recent trips to Vietnam and Sudan have stirred up inspiration and fresh passion for discovering new cultures and people groups. These experiences along with bright colors, love for people, and delight in God's Word largely influence my body of work. Whether we want it to or not, art teaches. I pray my art will teach true things to those who view it.
Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.
